Johnny’s Reef Review: A Casual Waterfront Seafood Spot

ABOUT
Johnny’s Reef is a great spot for seafood lovers, families, and anyone looking for a casual meal by the water. Known for its seafood, fried favorites, and waterfront setting, it has a laid-back, old-school atmosphere that feels more like a seaside getaway than a typical NYC restaurant.
WHAT I TRIED

Fried Shrimp & Fried Lobster
The fried shrimp were delicate and flavorful, while the fried lobster had a richer, more satisfying bite. The fries were crisp and golden, and the creamy coleslaw added a fresh, cool contrast to the fried seafood.

Steamed Red Snapper
The steamed red snapper was tender and moist, with a delicate flavor that let the fresh fish shine. The generous seasoning and lemon added a bright, savory touch. Also tried the garlic bread (not on the picture) was mild and a little plain, so it wasn’t a standout.

Virgin Piña Colada
An absolute must. Almost every customer seemed to have one with their order, and after trying it, I understood why. Smooth coconut and sweet pineapple make it refreshing and just sweet enough, making it the perfect drink to enjoy with the waterfront view. Available with alcohol.

DAMDA PICK ⭐
Fried Lobster & Piña Colada
The fried lobster was the one thing I’d come back for—it was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with rich, satisfying flavor. The piña colada is also a must; it’s the perfect refreshing pairing.
